Social Studies: Additional Needs

A Unique Programme: The BA Social Studies programme is unique; by linking social theory, sociology, education, psychology and social policy with professional practice it gives the graduate a firm foundation on which to become an effective and inclusive practitioner. Developing expertise in practices such as multi-agency working and person-centred thinking this programme delivers graduates with a wide range of employability skills which will benefit individuals and groups from disadvantaged backgrounds, those ‘at risk’ and vulnerable adults and children through challenging social exclusion and disadvantage. Study Pathways: The Additional Needs pathway allows students to specialise in an area that reflects their own personal interests and career aspirations; this can include focusing on the educational context, issues of agency and choice, access and engagement within society. A Strong Lecturing Team: This programme benefits from lecturers who are not only actively engaged in social research, but they have direct experience working in the field of equality and inclusion. This work experience, gained in educational, criminal justice, health and social care and voluntary settings, allows lecturers to reflect on working with people from a wide range of potentially disadvantaged backgrounds; allowing
