Many of the staff in the School of Automotive Engineering are competition licence holders and the university has a long history of involvement in motorsport dating back to 1996 when, as Swansea Institute, our GT team won the British GT Championship with its GT3 Darrian to the current time when our teams regularly compete across the UK in sprints, hillclimbs, rallies and circuit racing across the UK. Although they are extra curricula activities they will often be linked with your project and assignment work. We currently have a number of cars that our student teams compete with including Formula Renault Monoposto, MCR Sports 2000, Locost and a Lupo rally car. Involvement with one of these teams will enable you to get involved with real motorsport. Despite the seeming specialisation of this course, the skills you will gain are completely transferrable to the wider automotive industry which still provides an outstanding career path for many of our graduates.
