This exciting programme is specifically designed for people who: •have been out of education for some time •may not have any prior qualifications •are seeking employment •are juggling personal commitments •are interested in gaining knowledge •want to learn for pleasure •want to acquire new skills and a qualification •would like to be part of a thriving community The Gateway enables those without traditional qualifications entrance into study at Higher Education level. If previous life events have stopped you from studying and you want another opportunity, this programme is made for you. The Gateway offers an opportunity to redefine your life - to learn new skills, meet new people and join the academic community. The Gateway year is split into two sections. The first section of the course begins gently with a light introduction to study to help you get into the swing of things. In this period we cover an overview of writing and computing skills, and offer a selection of weekly taster courses to explore the disciplines of the humanities – including: Anthropology, Archaeology, Classics, Creative Writing, English, History, Ancient or Medieval History, Philosophy and Religious Studies. On successful completion of the first part of the course students are enabled to make the transition onto a degree subject of their choice.
