About University of Technology Sydney

At UTS, we think differently: we take a global approach to education that has innovation at its core. What’s more, we’re a university for the real world: all our courses are closely aligned with industry need, so what you learn will prepare you for your future career.

UTS is the top young university in Australia, and we’re ranked #15 (THE) globally.  Not bad for an institution that’s just 30 years old.

We take a hands-on approach to learning: major projects, group work and real-life case studies will prepare you for real-world practice. And we’ve invested over $1.3 billion in creating a dynamic and interconnected campus of the future, with tech-driven, purpose-built spaces that’ll inspire you to learn.

Life in a new city can be challenging – but we provide support services to help you along the way. We provide the essentials – health and counselling, academic support and English language tutoring – as well as some added extras, like careers preparation, housing assistance and a $30 million investment in scholarships and grants.

UTS is part of the Australian Technology Network of universities: a group of five prominent universities working with industry and government to deliver practical and professional courses.

Teaching and learning

Learning doesn’t happen in isolation. In fact, at UTS, learning is supported by our strong relationships with industry. All our faculties are led by industry advisory boards, and our industry partners help us shape our course content. They also make sure that we’re striking the right balance between theory and practice, which is where our commitment to hands-on learning comes in. Our courses offer extensive practical components – think major projects, group work and real-life case studies – that give you the chance to apply your theoretical learning in a real-world context. Lots of our courses are also accredited by professional associations, so when you graduate, your degree will be recognised across your chosen sector.

Campus & student life

What you study is one thing, but where you study it is another. We’ve invested $1.3 billion in creating a dynamic campus of the future, with tech-driven, purpose-built spaces that will inspire you to learn.

When you’re not in class, take advantage of our student spaces, relax on the Alumni Green, and make the most of living in one of the world’s great cities. Are you the entrepreneurial type? We’re surrounded by Sydney’s creative and digital industries, so you could be learning next door to and collaborating with some of the big names in your field.

Life in a new city can be challenging – but we provide support services to help you along the way, many of which are free. Our student services include:

  • English language support
  • Study support
  • Career development
  • Confidential medical and counselling services
  • Sports organisations and facilities
  • Peer networking and peer support opportunities
  • Housing support

One of the best ways to feel at home is to find somewhere to live. The UTS Housing Service can help you find housing on campus and private accommodation options in Sydney. Living in campus housing? Our Residential Networkers will support your safety and wellbeing, and get you involved in a huge range of social events as well.

Ready to step into the world of work? The UTS Careers Service can help. Attend free careers consultations, resume reviews and employment workshops, and take advantage of our services especially for international students. You can also access the student jobs board, industry career fairs and international alumni networks – everything you need to find the job of your dreams.

Are you a high-achieving student? When it comes to financial support, we’re making a big investment: we’ve dedicated over A$30 million to provide grants and scholarships support for international students until 2020. From academic excellence awards and full tuition scholarships to government-sponsored grants, we support students – like you!
