This course introduces students to the structure of the English legal system and key aspects of law including contractual and tortious liability and property law, developing deeper understanding through more specific legal aspects such as employment law and EU law. The course also places emphasise on the practical management of legal practice such as case management, client care, tribunals and civil court practice. Complementing the Law modules, Ethics explores a number of challenging moral, and often legal, dilemmas. Graduates of Law and Ethics are well prepared for a range of occupations and their particular knowledge and skills are increasingly relevant to careers paths such as para-legal work, e.g within legal practices, will-writing, property conveyancing, local authorities, court services, the Crown Prosecution Service, the Police service, as well as larger commercial organisations with in-house departments increasingly involved in legal functions e.g. human resources, employment law and health and safety.
