What can literary texts, films and other types of artistic representation tell us about both Scotland and the world at large? How have cultural forms and practices evolved through this and the last century, as different global groups and regions have become increasingly interconnected? These are the kinds of questions you’ll be studying as part of our Literature and Cinema programme, by examining literature and films from across the globe, ranging from English, Scottish and Commonwealth literature to classic early 20th century European cinema and 21st century films from Africa and Latin America. This innovative combined degree course cuts across traditional disciplinary boundaries, drawing on literature and visual culture in English Studies, languages, and across the humanities. You’ll learn how to interpret literature, films and other cultural texts and practices from throughout the world, gaining a solid grounding in film and textual analysis, cultural studies and area studies.
