Popular Music

If you love music, you probably feel you live, sleep and dream it. This degree is fully focused on helping you to turn that passion into your career. You will spend three years developing your performance skills at the same time as developing other practical transferable skills around live music to enable you to manage a portfolio career. This course is not genre specific and will include students with an interest in music performance of any musical style. The UK music industry employs more than 130,000 people. You can have an enormously successful career in the industry without being a household name. Aside from performers there are innumerable other career paths, ranging from the technologists who engineer, light and record live events through to those who organise, publicise and manage it. You will learn all of these skills to enable you to maximise your career opportunities within the industry. At the same time you will gain a degree with the transferable academic skills that entails: critical thinking and analysis, communication, writing and project management.
