Musical theatre is an enduring art form which has seen recent revival, with TV shows building enthusiasm among younger audiences. The result is a multi-billion dollar worldwide industry with myriad careers. Successful musicals can run for decades and a lot of people are needed to keep all that jazz on the road. As well as performers, musical theatre requires writers, producers, technicians and other management staff to make it a success. Musical theatre transcends national boundaries and the most successful enjoy international tours. This degree enables students to develop a career as a creative entrepreneur and artist in the musical theatre industry, understanding the range of creative roles and developing a broad portfolio of skills to take advantage of career opportunities. Students graduating from this course will have a range of skills which could be used in careers around performance and theatre. They will also have broad transferable skills around research, communication and confidence in order to move into other roles across the creative arts industry. Graduates may also move into further postgraduate study. This is a new course starting in 2018 and is currently subject to validation.
