Journalism (Sport Journalism)

If you are into sport and you want to get into sport journalism, this is the course for you. We spend our time making the news, watching sport and preparing you for a media career. Sports Journalism students have access to a vibrant sports community, with outstanding sports facilities and stories to investigate from local community sports to Olympic stars. From newspaper and magazine journalism, through sports photography and film-making, to presenting and producing sports news on television and radio, we make sure our students get to explore as much of their potential as possible. We also help our students to specialise in a particular topic which fits with their professional ambitions. If you can’t always be on the pitch, court, field or track, you can be right next to it instead. This course includes regular sessions with industry guests from the world of journalism, for example from Match of the Day (MOTD), The Guardian and the BBC. In addition to our second year placement module we also facilitate regular work experience for our students across the region, for example news reporting at the Plymouth Herald or live match reporting for the Plymouth Raiders. We encourage students to make great contacts through our guest lecture programme and work-based learning. Sports Journalism graduate have gone on to work in the media departments at professional sports clubs, newspapers, magazines, national radio stations and websites, as well as in the sports PR and marketing industry.
