Exercise Physiology

Physical activity and exercise are fundamental for improving health. Exercise Physiologists are qualified to deliver exercise-based lifestyle and behaviour modification programs to improve overall health and quality of life in patients with chronic conditions. With an ageing population, increasing obesity and raised awareness around the benefits of exercise for a range of conditions, demand in this field is on the rise. You will enjoy practical training in exercise physiology, biomechanics, motor control, strength and conditioning and complete clinical exercise delivery, using state-of-the-art equipment in our laboratories and exercise rehabilitation clinics. Wide ranging modules including human anatomy and physiology, biomechanics, motor learning and control, clinical exercise physiology and psychology, exercise design and nutrition. This course includes specialised training in pathophysiology, clinical assessment and prescription procedures, the interactions of exercise and medicine, and the application of exercise to the management of multiple medical chronic conditions. During this course you will gain 400 hours of clinical practice with patients. At the end of the third year you will have the opportunity to become a ACSM Certified Clinical Exercise Physiologist with the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) – the only internationally recognised qualification. Exercise Physiologists enjoy diverse careers in areas such as hospitals, general practices or private clinics, health and fitness facilities, workplace and population health services, professional sports teams, sports clubs, and exercise, sports and biomedical science research.
