Our courses provide you with the fundamentals of engineering, alongside design modules throughout your degree, which enable you to apply your knowledge and develop the skills you need to become a successful engineer. This course focuses on the analysis and specification of marine engineering systems used on-board ships and other marine structures. You will learn about the performance characteristics of prime movers such as diesel engines, steam and gas turbines, and electric propulsion, and develop your knowledge in the wider areas of marine law, safety, and management. The Industrial Placement Year is an additional year-long module that allows you to apply for a placement with an engineering-based organisation. The Industrial Placement Year will be taken between your second and third years, extending your degree to five years. During your year-long placement, you will fulfil the role of a trainee engineer on a full-time basis. We offer our students a dynamic learning environment; your course will include a combination of lectures, laboratory classes, tutorials, private study, and individual and group projects.
