This flexible programme allows you to design your own path of study by choosing from a wide and varied selection of modules ranging from Nietzsche to The Philosophy of Religion, from Romanticism to Creative Writing. We also offer the chance to explore topics in other subject areas. The year abroad will allow you to experience an entirely new culture and learn or develop another language. Philosophy and English are highly complementary subjects requiring critical analysis, careful reading, imagination and communication, with overlap in areas such as aesthetics and critical theory. The year abroad will give you the opportunity to study for an additional academic year at a partner university in another part of the world. Destinations include Europe, Asia and North America. We are first in the Russell Group for overall student satisfaction (NSS 2016), and ranked eighth in the UK according to The Guardian University Guide 2016. We offer a high number of contact hours with teaching conducted in small groups. Our research-led teaching is delivered by recognised world experts on contemporary philosophy and the history of the subject, and we achieved the seventh highest score in the UK for published work (REF 2014). We also offer many opportunities to take modules outside your main degree subjects and to study abroad.
