Film and Philosophy

This combined degree builds on research and teaching strengths in both areas, producing a successful and challenging course combination that benefits in particular from film studies' interest in aesthetics and philosophy. Film and Philosophy is an exciting and challenging combination that provides a critical understanding of film as popular entertainment, industry and art form. Philosophy and Film are both subjects that require theoretical discipline, imagination, the ability to analyse complex texts and to communicate clearly and with flair. As well as fostering similar skill sets, they often offer complementary perspectives on topics ranging from the value of art and social mores to national identity and politics.
