Biomedical Electronic Engineering

At Southampton our Electronic Engineering graduates have a world-leading reputation for creative solutions based on cutting-edge knowledge and state-of-the-art technical skills. Biomedical Electronic Engineering is the interface of electronics and life sciences and you will explore the application of cutting-edge electronic engineering theory and practice to develop new medical and healthcare technologies. This unique four-year MEng degree in Biomedical Electronic Engineering builds on our BEng programme and will provide you with a detailed knowledge of electronics and biomedicine, together with the ability to apply engineering principles to medicine and healthcare. Key areas of study include electronic circuits and systems, healthcare technologies design project, molecular basis of life, physiology and neuroscience, biomedical control and signals, digital systems and microprocessors, programming and computer engineering, devices and solid state electronics, electrical materials and fields. Excellent experimental facilities in both Electronics and Life Sciences laboratories will develop your practical skills, including designing a health and wellness monitoring platform. Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Southampton are Ranked number 1 in the UK (Guardian University Guide 2016) and we are first in the UK for graduate prospects (Guardian University Guide 2016). 100 per cent of our students are in professional/managerial work six months after graduating (Unistats, 2016) and we are first in the UK for volume and quality of our electrical and electronic engineering research (REF 2014). We have an unrivalled reputation for our facilities, including our £4.5m undergraduate teaching labs and £100m state-of-the-art interdisciplinary clean room complex and high-voltage laboratory. Our renowned teaching staff prepare our students to work in a wide variety of areas and fields; we have strong relationships with employers, and our graduates are particularly in demand for their understanding of organisations and their practical abilities in the workplace. We have our own Careers Hub website, run an annual careers fair and have a dedicated startup incubator, Future Worlds, to support student enterprise. Our MEng Electrical Engineering degrees are accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), and we are members of the UK Electronics Skills Foundation (UK-ESF) and IET Power Academy.
