Quantitative Social Sciences

Sheffield is a Q-Step centre – one of only 15 universities in the UK to offer this kind of intensive training in quantitative research methods. Based at our ESRC-accredited Sheffield Methods Institute, you’ll learn how social statistics are created and used. You’ll develop data literacy and analytic skills that make you highly proficient researcher. We’ll also show how to communicate your findings to a non-specialist audience. You can specialise in one of the following areas: criminology; sociology and politics; human geography; landscape and urban studies; and management. There’s a growing demand for graduates with these skills in all kinds of organisations across the public and private sectors – the degree might take you anywhere. So we place a lot of emphasis on employability – helping you find your direction. There are opportunities to go on placement and work on research projects with an industry partner. And we offer optional modules in career management skills and entrepreneurship.
