Staff in our Department of Psychology are engaged in research with a huge range of applications, much of it internationally recognised. Their work on computational neuroscience, for example, is helping to develop robots that learn like humans. Other projects are making a difference in health and social care, and informing clinical practice. This breadth of expertise makes Sheffield an exciting place to study, full of possibilities. You’ll be trained in the methods used by professional psychologists and researchers. And there are plenty of opportunities to work on real research projects, many of which involve public or private sector partners. The course is accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS), which makes you eligible for graduate membership, the first step towards becoming a chartered psychologist. Some of our graduates follow this route, which involves some postgraduate training. Others use their considerable transferable skills in areas such as advertising, market research and social work.
