This dual degree is a great opportunity for you to develop as a musician and as an individual. The Department of Music, where you will spend roughly half your time, teaches most genres, including classical, pop, jazz, folk and world music. You’ll get tuition on your main instrument and you can specialise in composition, performance or sound recording. German Studies at Sheffield combines intensive language training with rigorous academic study. We teach in German on many of our modules, which cover literature, culture, history, philosophy, politics, language theory and usage in German-speaking countries. You will spend your third year in Germany or another German-speaking country, usually as a student at a university, though students sometimes go on approved work placements. Choosing a degree like this one is often the first step towards a richer intellectual and cultural life. A second language, and experience of living and studying in another culture are big advantages in the jobs market too, particularly if you want an international career. Recent graduates have gone into teaching, translating, journalism, broadcasting, government and business.
