Sheffield is one of only a few universities in the north of England with a stand-alone economics department. Our staff are internationally respected. They advise UK government departments and international organisations such as the World Bank. So the department is large enough to cover a lot of specialist topics, which means more choice for you. We also offer the option of a year-long work placement with a relevant organisation. The Department of Politics, where you will spend roughly half your time, is one of the very best places in the UK to study politics. The Times Good University Guide 2016 puts us in the top five. Staff here pioneered an undergraduate module that’s accredited and co-taught by the House of Commons. The idea has since been imitated all over the world. Some of our graduates become professional economists. Others go into related professions such as banking, insurance and accounting. Some work for organisations such as Deloitte, Nestle, Rolls-Royce, the Office of Budget Responsibility and the Houses of Parliament.
