Chemical engineering at Sheffield means getting out of the classroom as often as possible. There’s an emphasis on practical skills. You’ll build up experience through lab work and industry visits. And you’ll take part in the faculty’s Global Engineering Challenge, a team exercise designed to make you a better engineer. Spending a year on work placement extends your course to five years, so it takes commitment. But it gives you a distinct advantage in the jobs market. As well as earning a salary, you will make contacts and see first hand how knowledge is translated into practical applications. Global companies like our graduates because they are ready to work. Our graduates fit right in to industrial teams, designing and operating new processes in chemical products, pharmaceuticals, oil and gas, food and drink, for big names such as BASF, GlaxoSmithKline and Tata Steel. We’re accredited by the Institution of Chemical Engineering and the Energy Institute, so your degree puts you on the path to chartered status.
