Chemical engineering at Sheffield means getting out of the classroom as often as possible. There’s an emphasis on practical skills. You’ll build up experience through lab work and industry visits. And you’ll take part in the faculty’s Global Engineering Challenge, a team exercise designed to make you a better engineer. This course is designed to prepare you for a career in nuclear power, fuel processing or plant decommissioning. But the nuclear technology part of the course doesn’t start until the third year, so if you change your mind you can switch courses at the end of the second year. Global companies like our graduates because they are ready to work. Our graduates fit right in to industrial teams, designing and operating new processes in chemical products, pharmaceuticals, oil and gas, food and drink, for big names such as BASF, GlaxoSmithKline and Tata Steel. We’re accredited by the Institution of Chemical Engineering and the Energy Institute, so your degree puts you on the path to chartered status.
