Chemical engineering at Sheffield means getting out of the classroom as often as possible. There’s an emphasis on practical skills. You’ll build up experience through lab work and industry visits. And you’ll take part in the faculty’s Global Engineering Challenge, a team exercise designed to make you a better engineer. You’ll go on work placement for at least 38 weeks between your second and third year. We’ll help you find the right role. As well as being paid a salary, you will make contacts and see first hand how knowledge is translated into industrial applications. Global companies like our graduates because they are ready to work. They fit well in industrial teams, designing and operating new processes in chemical products, pharmaceuticals, oil and gas, food and drink, for big names such as BASF, GlaxoSmithKline and Tata Steel. We’re accredited by the Institution of Chemical Engineering and the Energy Institute, so your degree puts you on the path to chartered status.
