Physics with Acoustics - University of Salford

**Harmful sound can impact on our wellbeing, but technological and scientific advances are helping us to manage noise in our environments. Discover how to create a better sounding world with a degree in Physics with Acoustics at Salford.** Salford is a leading UK centre for acoustics and it has pioneered audio research for over 50 years. Our discoveries have shaped products that companies make and sell worldwide, and established UK and international noise regulations and standards. By studying Physics with Acoustics you’ll build skills and knowledge in a world-class environment. Accredited by the Institute of Physics, our unique four-year course blends core physics principles with acoustic specialisms. You’ll study classical physics, quantum physics, particle physics and relativity. Recognising your interest in acoustics, you’ll follow modules that develop your understanding of the human perception of sound and its application in a range of contexts. In choosing this pathway, you'll graduate with a Masters-level degree. Physics can be challenging, so we place great emphasis on small group teaching to make you feel fully supported. You’ll have an immersive experience, taking part in group projects to develop team working, problem solving, and communication and presentation skills. We’ll encourage you to complete an additional placement year, where you can apply your knowledge in industry, adding ‘with professional experience’ to your degree award. Learning takes places in our Peel Park campus, minutes from bustling Manchester, a thriving commercial hub recently voted the most liveable city in the UK.* A unique part of our physics degree is our emphasis on employer engagement. We consulted professional physicists from industry when we designed this course to ensure that the content is robust and will prepare you for the world of work. As a Salford physics graduate, you will have the skills to take you into a successful, exciting career. **Features** - Explore acoustics, including acoustic impedance, reflection factor and absorption coefficient, radiation impedance, and behaviour of sound in 3D enclosures - Develop a systematic understanding of human perception of sound and its application in a musical context in world-class acoustics facilities - Strengthen your knowledge and analytical technique around the physical principles associated with electrons and physics - Study classical dynamics, static and dynamic charges, quantum mechanics, fundamentals of relativity and atomic physics - Experience computer laboratory sessions to apply numerical methods and techniques frequently encountered in physical and engineering challenges - Take your knowledge and skills postgraduate level study *The Economist’s Global Liveability Index 2018
