Mechanical Engineering

**From heating systems to the vehicles we drive, mechanical engineering shapes our daily life. With increasing demand for professional qualified engineers, a Mechanical Engineering degree with Salford can launch an exciting career designing, commissioning and maintaining the systems of the future.** Mechanical engineers manage a wide range of processes, from the production of silicone chips to creating jet aircrafts. Our BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering course is accredited by the Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS) and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) and is a direct pathway to professional status. It will provide you with the competencies to become a Chartered Engineer with a commitment to the highest professional standards. You’ll follow a three-year degree programme – or four, with our MEng (Hons) integrated master’s pathway. Learning takes place in our Peel Park campus, minutes from central Manchester. Here, you’ll develop practical problem-solving skills in our specialist mechanical, aerodynamics, composite material and control and dynamic laboratories. You’ll study engineering in relation to mathematics, electrical systems, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, engineering structures and dynamics. You’ll explore elements such as engineering dynamics and control engineering, and take part in a mechanical group design project. With a strong management theme throughout the course, you’ll have opportunities to interact with a broad range of local business and industry multinationals. You can also choose to take an industrial placement year, develop your workplace skills and add ‘with professional experience’ to your degree award. **Features** - Learn about the relationship between micro-structure and mechanical properties of materials, mechanisms of corrosion and corrosion protection - Explore specialist modules such as dynamics and control engineering, structural mechanics and Finite Element analysis - Write concise specifications, present concepts, perform appropriate calculations and select appropriate manufacturing processes - Gain an understanding of the concepts of engineering thermodynamics and fluid mechanics - Develop an understanding of project timings, resource allocation and decision making methodology used by industry
