Building Surveying

Building Surveyors look at building pathology, focusing on refurbishment, reuse, development, restoration, repair, and conservation. As our growing cities adapt to the changing needs of the 21st century, our RICS-accredited BSc (Hons) Building Surveying degree could open up a rewarding future. Salford is a leading UK centre for surveying and we’re consistently ranked in the World Top 100 universities (QS 2018) for Architecture and Built Environment study. Providing a gateway to professional status, our Building Surveying course will advance your knowledge through a series economic, legal, technical design and management modules. Accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), and developed in consultation with industry, you’ll be educated to the highest professional standards. Through this course, led by international experts, you’ll gain a comprehensive knowledge base. You’ll learn about the construction industry and its legal and regulatory framework. You’ll explore the relationship between a building and its internal and external environments. You’ll recognise how to diagnose problems with existing buildings and be aware of conservation and regeneration. Learning takes place in our Peel Park campus, minutes from buzzing Manchester, a property and construction hotspot recently voted the UK’s most liveable city.* Mirroring the collaborative real-world, you’ll complete projects and problem-solving activities alongside Salford’s other built environment students. We‘ll also encourage you to take an additional placement year to develop further professional and technical skills in the workplace. *The Economist’s Global Liveability Index 2018 **Features** - Gain the knowledge and skills to describe, explain, evaluate, and apply building construction techniques - Learn to identify and use appropriate strategies and technologies applicable to building surveying practice - Develop an understanding of the interactions between a building and its internal and external environments - Gain the ability to identify symptoms and diagnose defects found in a diverse range of building types - Understand urban regeneration so you can participate in future sustainable regeneration initiatives
