This course is accredited by the NCTJ and includes a formal journalism-based work placement. You will work with experienced practitioners and researchers to develop up-to-date skills for today’s 24-hour rolling news culture, and apply them in our fully equipped newsroom. MORE ABOUT THIS COURSE You will have access to industry-standard systems and equipment for print, broadcast and new-media journalism in our newsroom, and to our network of employers within the industry. You will also be fully trained and supported in learning shorthand. OPTIONAL PATHWAYS You may follow optional pathways in English language and linguistics or in English literature, studying units in your second chosen subject and leading to the exit awards BA (Hons) Journalism with English Language and Linguistics or BA (Hons) Journalism with English Literature WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR? This course is for students who want to develop the knowledge and skills required by a 21st century journalist. SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE GAINED The course includes a formal 10-day journalism placement and encourages further formal and informal placements throughout the course or as a sandwich year. Many of the units teach vocational skills, relevant law or practical knowledge. AFTER THE COURSE You will graduate with the skills needed to find journalistic work in newspapers, magazines and broadcast media, or to work in public relations, corporate communications and marketing.
