WHY STUDY THIS COURSE? This course integrates the three year BSc (Hons) and a one year postgraduate degree leading to a single Master's upon graduation. Choose to specialise in areas such as ecology, whole organism biology, microbiology, developmental biology and more, perform research projects using state of the art equipment and choose to study abroad on one of many conservation and research schemes. MORE ABOUT THIS COURSE The School of Biological Sciences has major pure and applied research groups, with their research rated internationally-excellent and world-leading. As a result, many of our graduates have gone on to do higher degrees and are now involved in active research groups of their own or are prominent figures in research-led industries. WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR? This course is for individuals who are interested in studying the science of Biology at a more advanced level to gain a greater knowledge of a research working environment and experience of research techniques in your chosen subject. SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE GAINED Year One highlights the most recent advances in the field, while in Year Three you can participate in practical workshops that offer you a real hands-on experience of using our top-class X-ray structural biology facilities. The additional year will provide you with the background needed to follow a professional career, either in academia or in industry. AFTER THE COURSE Many graduates continue with their studies but as a newly qualified modern biologist, you may find employment in diverse areas like the biotechnology or food industry, science administration and communication, biomedical research, environmental consultancy and teaching.
