**Why study this course?** Web design demands a range of creative, technical and commercial skills. You will explore the design, implementation and technological development skills of the WebMaster. With a practical approach, you will learn html, css, php and ajax. This course will give you an excellent foundation for ecommerce, web marketing, web development or management. The first year will focus on the essential concepts of programming, databases and the code that creates and supports webpages. You will learn how information systems are designed and how they affect both individuals and organisations. You will develop an understanding of current principles and practice while you gain the knowledge and skills you need for your career aspirations. The breadth of this first year allows you to transfer smoothly if you discover you have an interest in another area of Computing. The second year will develop your skills in web programming, creative design and website management whilst also extending your knowledge of databases. We scrutinise the quality of your work, emphasising the importance of usability and accessibility in the creation of successful websites. At the end of this year, you may choose to take an industry placement in your chosen career field or progress straight onto your final year. Taking a year out in industry is particularly beneficial when it comes to applying for graduate jobs. The experience, enhanced knowledge and networking opportunities that you get from placements will make you stand out against other graduates. We will help you to find a placement that suits your needs, practice your CV writing, application and interview skills, and support you throughout the placement itself. This course culminates in an applied project with a real client, or a dissertation linked to your strengths and preferences. You will study Security, Business Intelligence and Project Management at greater depth as you tailor your studies to your career aspirations and interests.
