Optometry

Our BSc Optometry course will help you learn the scientific principles that underpin optometry. Through our course, you will discover the scientific principles that underpin optometry, including the properties of light, the anatomy of the eye and the processing of vision in the brain. You will gain a wealth of practical clinical experience through a placement with Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, which is unique to The University of Manchester and not offered by any other UK university. Students graduating with a BSc degree are usually able to register as an optometrist after a one year pre-registration placement. Some students are able to take our unique four-year Master of Science in Optometry course. Graduates of this course are able to automatically able to register to practice as an optometrist with the General Optical Council on successful graduation.
