Medical Biosciences (Genetics) - University of Leicester

Genetics and genetic mechanisms can tell us so much about heredity and evolution. When researched in the context of diseases in a massively outbred human population, genetics leads us to discover better, more personalised diagnosis and treatments of diseases. The MBiolSci in Medical Biosciences (Genetics) will give you the expertise to understand how genetics and molecular biology relate to medicine, disease and health including diagnosis and treatment of disease, clinical research, genetic testing and genetic counselling. You will study a broad range of related topics, including proteins, gene expression, molecular cell biology, metabolism and molecular medicine and biomedical ethics. By studying genetics in the context of medical science, you will understand how genetic research is used in the diagnosis and treatment of disease, including clinical research, genetic testing and genetic counselling. Along the way you will gain subject-specific knowledge while developing your analytical skills and gaining experience in handling complex information. You will also gain a broad understanding of fundamental biological processes. By studying genetics in the context of medicine, disease and health, you will be able to apply your knowledge across many sub-disciplines and gain a valuable and powerful asset in scientific environments and in many other walks of life.
