Data Science - University of Leicester

As the reach of technology continues to spread into new areas of life and work, the demand for technology-related skills grows. Among the new roles that have arisen is 'Data Scientist'. A Data Scientist is employed to analyse and interpret digital data, such as the interactions with a website, or purchase patterns, especially to assist business decision-making. In 2012, Harvard Business Review named data scientist the "sexiest job of the 21st century." More recently, Glassdoor named it the "best job of the year" for 2016. Data Science is the application of statistical and analytical methods to extract insights and knowledge from data. This is usually done within a business context to support decision making. The skills that are required to work as a data science come from the statistical and algebraic side of mathematics, the programming and data management side of computer science with aspects of problem solving and the ability to work within different disciplines.
