Russian Civilisation allows you to study Russian literature, media, history, politics, religion, economics and society to gain a wide range of skills. You don’t need any language skills, but you’ll have the chance to learn Russian at beginners’ level in your first year. A combination of core and optional modules will give you a firm grounding in different aspects of Russian culture alongside specialist knowledge in the areas that interest you the most. At Leeds, you can become fluent in Spanish while gaining an insight into the history, culture and politics of Spain and Latin America. Core modules will develop your language skills and introduce you to the history and culture of Spain and Hispanic America, and you’ll choose optional modules on topics that interest you. You’ll also benefit from the Spanish government’s cultural arm, the Instituto Cervantes, and the Catalan government’s Ramon Llull Institute, which are based on campus.
