Russian Civilisation allows you to study Russian literature, media, history, politics, religion, economics and society to gain a wide range of skills. You don’t need any language skills, but you’ll have the chance to learn Russian at beginners’ level in your first year. A combination of core and optional modules will give you a firm grounding in different aspects of Russian culture alongside specialist knowledge in the areas that interest you the most. Sociology allows you to study the ways in which societies and institutions are structured and organised, as well as the effects they have on human behaviour. Core modules introduce you to key theories and approaches in sociology and how they apply to today’s society. You then develop this knowledge in optional modules allowing you to explore important and often controversial issues such as drug policy, crime, the sex trade, family dynamics, disability rights and protest movements.
