Middle Eastern Studies is an interdisciplinary approach to the politics, history and cultures of a complex and fascinating region. Core modules will introduce you to the diversity of cultures, religions and ethnicities in the region as well as Arabic and Islamic history. You’ll then develop specialist knowledge with your choice of optional modules, from the Arabic media and popular culture to the Arab-Israeli Conflict and democratisation in the Middle East and North Africa. Sociology allows you to study the ways in which societies and institutions are structured and organised, as well as the effects they have on human behaviour. Core modules introduce you to key theories and approaches in sociology and how they apply to today’s society. You then develop this knowledge in optional modules allowing you to explore important and often controversial issues such as drug policy, crime, the sex trade, family dynamics, disability rights and protest movements.
