International Development gives you an insight into the challenges of global development, how people perceive their causes and the ways in which different actors respond to them. Core modules introduce you to key issues such as the impact of colonialism and how different agencies contribute to development. You’ll also choose from optional and discovery modules that allow you to pursue your own interests. It’s a fascinating introduction to major world issues as they are seen in the Global South.
This degree will allow you to learn Portuguese from beginners’ level and gain an insight into Lusophone and Latin American history and culture. By combining core and optional modules, you’ll build language skills and explore topics from literature and cinema to national identity and the African Diaspora. You’ll also benefit from the Instituto Camões – the cultural institute of the Portuguese government is on campus and you’ll have access to all of its facilities.
