History and Spanish

Spanish is one of the world’s major languages, spoken by more than 300 million people. If you have an A-level in Spanish, this degree will give you the chance to become fluent in the language and engage with the history, culture and politics of the Spanish-speaking world, as well as gaining a sophisticated understanding of British, European and world history. You’ll develop your spoken and written Spanish in core modules and choose from a wide range of optional modules, from Catalan language to Latin American literature and translation studies. You can take modules in Spanish and Latin American history throughout your degree to complement your studies in history, or take a more varied approach. At the same time, you’ll conduct research to explore different historical themes in societies around the world. You can also take optional modules on topics such as the Crusades, the slave trade or Chartism. It’s a flexible degree allowing you to gain a wide range of skills.
