Arabic is a vital language for understanding societies in the Middle East and the Islamic world. If you’ve never studied the language before, this degree will allow you to learn the language from scratch while gaining an insight into Islamic thought, Arabic culture and Middle Eastern history. A combination of core and optional modules will give you a firm grounding in the language and Arab and Islamic history while you study the topics that suit your interests. This degree will allow you to learn Portuguese from beginners’ level and gain an insight into Lusophone and Latin American history and culture. By combining core and optional modules, you’ll build language skills and explore topics from literature and cinema to national identity and the African Diaspora. You’ll also benefit from the Instituto Camões – the cultural institute of the Portuguese government is on campus and you’ll have access to all of its facilities.
