If you’re excited by the creative potential that working with textiles can open up and you’d like to develop your craftsmanship, this course could help you build your skills. We’ll look at creative development and thinking, and explore a range of traditional and future materials too. With a grounding in craftsmanship, the Textile Practice (Textile Crafts and Art) BA/BSc(Hons) aims to develop your craft skills through creative development, making and thinking. We’ll look at a range of traditional and contemporary materials, and give you the chance to get creative in a variety of different ways. Cloth, craft design, artefacts, education and textile art, you can explore lots of different ways to be creative. You might well have the chance to explore new technologies alongside the more traditional approaches. And, if possible, we’ll get you working on socially engaged projects with the wider community of Textile Crafts and Art practitioners. You could even enter prestigious design competitions. And we’ll give you the opportunity to go on field trips to trade shows and exhibitions so you can put everything in a cultural context. While you get a feel for the practical side of things we’ll aim to develop some key skills that will be useful for lots of careers. Like your creative, professional, intellectual and personal skills, all of which could help you become a contemporary textile practitioner, designer maker or commercial designer. You may even follow in the footsteps of previous textile crafts graduates and start up your own business. The course is accredited by the Textile Institute, a worldwide organisation for textiles, clothing and footwear. At the end of your studies, you will have had every chance to develop your knowledge of materials and techniques, as well as how to create innovative products. We believe in keeping your options open as you study too. Textile Practice (Textile Crafts and Art) BA/BSc(Hons) is part of a suite of three courses that includes Textile Practice (Textile Design) BA/BSc(Hons) and Textile Practice (Textile Surfaces) BA/BSc(Hons). Once you’ve enrolled on one of the courses, you’re free to switch to another during the final year (with the agreement of your tutors) if your interests change. You only have to apply for one course within the suite we offer.
