From the very start of this course, you’ll get the chance to develop the vital skills you need to care for children, young people and their families whatever their circumstances, including those with acute illness, long-term conditions or those who need help to maintain their health. You’ll learn and develop both practical and theoretical skills in order to achieve your full potential as a child nurse and meet the Nursing and Midwifery Council standards.You’ll get the chance to develop your practical skills in a safe environment in our fully-equipped simulated children’s ward using our patient simulators. What’s more, you’ll have the chance to put what you have learnt into practice through placements in a variety of acute settings including general paediatric/children's wards, accident and emergency departments, intensive care and neonatal intensive care. You may also have the opportunity to work with specialist nurses in a range of community settings including GP surgeries, health centres, children's hospices, and mainstream and specialist schools. The course is designed to help you gain the skills, values and confidence to allow you to achieve your full potential. After successfully completing the course you’ll be able to apply to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and work as a Registered Nurse for Children. The course also covers how to respond to the needs of patients and service users from all fields of nursing including adult and mental health.
