People are the most important asset a business can have. Consequently businesses are keen to attract and retain the best talent they can find. We look at human resources management to give you the chance to understand the role it plays in business. As the course is an integrated Master’s you’ll be able to progress seamlessly from your undergraduate degree to Master’s level in just four years. The course is designed to help develop you as a potential Human Resource Management (HRM) professional. We'll give you the chance to develop a range of HR skills and competence, and to build up your business acumen too. You’ll be given the opportunity to integrate academic knowledge with practice in the real world. You’ll be able to hear talks from visiting businesses, and you’ll be supported by leading academics while you study. We will also work closely throughout the course with the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), the professional body for HR and people development. [The University is an APPROVED CIPD centre.] In the final year of study you will become a CIPD student member and on successful completion of the course be awarded Assoc CIPD. This means you will have the professional HR qualification as well as a postgraduate degree. To meet the CIPD’s professional standards, you’ll be expected to gain a certain level of work experience while you’re here. You could choose a placement between year 2 and year 3, spending 12 months in the industry, or you could opt for four weeks’ work experience before you finish your third year. Either way, you’ll gain an invaluable opportunity to apply the knowledge you’ve learnt on the course in the real world.
