Having a creative eye and a talent for fashion design is only half the story. If you’re going to make it in the fashion industry you also need to have the practical skills and technical ability to succeed. This course aims to give you a great head start in this exciting sector. We’ll give you the chance to focus on designing and making fashion garments, while also getting a feel for production methods such as computerised pattern cutting and mass production. You’ll also be able to study the marketing side of things, including how to create a brand and how to promote your products. While you’re here we’ll do all we can to build up your portfolio of skills, letting you try your hand at creative design, evocative illustration, range building and garment manufacture. We want to give you the chance to become technically prepared to start your career in the dynamic fashion industry. The course is one of only a small number of fashion design degrees in the UK that is accredited by Creative Skillset. A highly coveted award, Creative Skillset is the fashion industry’s kite mark of excellence for undergraduate fashion design courses. That means the course is recognised as giving you the chance to develop skills that are in line with the needs of the fashion industry. On your course you’ll be able to use a range of contemporary technology to bring your ideas to life. From industry-standard sewing machines and pattern-cutting equipment, to state-of-the-art software for computer-aided design and manufacture, you’ll be able to choose the equipment you need to create your own unique designs. Fashion Design (Fashion Design with Marketing and Production) BA(Hons) is one of a suite of two courses - the other is Fashion Design (Fashion Design with Textiles) BA(Hons). Once you’ve enrolled on one of the courses, you could switch to the other one in your first year if your interests change and your tutor agrees to it.
