Creative direction draws on aspects of visual culture including photography and styling, product range planning, and communication in order to promote fashion and lifestyle products. The role of a creative director is to define and develop the overall look of a fashion business, ranging from store visual merchandising, digital content, advertising and media photography, and customer communications. Fashion Creative Direction BA(Hons) lets you explore your creativity within a commercial framework, incorporating styling, photography, digital image skills and visual communication specifically for the fashion industry. You’ll study the theory and practice of creative direction, and explore its uses within the international fashion business, ranging from the high street to the luxury sector. You’ll have the opportunity to complete a range of exciting and innovative projects designed to develop your creative skills and expand your fashion industry insight. You’ll work in both print and digital formats on projects that include exhibitions, trend forecasting, media publication and product development. We’ll help you develop your abilities in styling, creative concept development, photography, fashion film and graphic design, and let you apply them to fashion consumer, media and communication applications. You’ll work collaboratively as well as individually, gaining an insight into the aspects of creative direction and how these influence fashion design and fashion marketing. Previous students in this subject area have worked on exciting live projects for brands including Coach, L.K. Bennett, Topshop, Primark and Bonmarché and our optional placement year gives you the chance to gain real-world experience with the fashion industry. We’ll also organise field trips to exhibitions and events to compliment your studies and inspire your ideas.
