Animation is all around us. From the latest blockbuster to TV advertising or even on mobile and social media. If you’ve got the creativity and the technical know-how, you could play an exciting role in this ever-expanding industry. This highly creative and innovative course gives you the chance to explore the options. Developing interesting characters and giving them their own distinctive movements, putting together a compelling narrative, creating storyboards and illustration, so much goes into even the simplest animation. We’ll give you the chance to experience every aspect, to help you develop powerful, visually smart and creative ideas for your animation. Along the way we’ll look at idents, stings and short animations, giving you the opportunity to develop your own unique visual language and gain the technical skills to help your ideas take shape. You’ll be working in our specialist studios, where there are plenty of students from other disciplines too, so you can collaborate and spark ideas across the wider community. It’s vital that you have a chance to understand how animation works in the wider world, and what kind of career prospects are out there, so we organise talks by a range of guest speakers, with professionals from companies like ManvsMachine and Territory Studios. You’ll have the chance to understand the factors out in the real world that are shaping the future of animation. We’ll also give you the chance to take part in workshops, live briefs and international design competitions. It’s all designed to get you ready for placements, internships and future employment once you’ve graduated. We believe in keeping your options open as you study too. Animation BA(Hons) is part of a suite of three courses that includes Graphic Design BA(Hons) and Graphic Design and Animation BA(Hons). Once you’ve enrolled on one of the courses, if your interests change and your tutor allows, you could switch to another between your first and second years. You only have to apply for one course within the suite we offer.
