The modern design engineer needs more than just subject knowledge and problem-solving ability. In today's multi-disciplinary industry, with integrated project teams, it is necessary to appreciate how individual responsibilities blend into a systems approach to design. This MEng has been designed in conjunction with industry and is delivered by academics with extensive engineering experience so that you will graduate with the skills, both technical and personal, needed by the modern engineering sector. At the heart of this course is the engineering design process from conceptual design to deployment and disposal. This starts in year one with a self-contained project (such as Engineers Without Borders) that introduces you to the full project lifecycle. In years 2 to 5 you will be involved in every stage of a much larger project using industry tools and methods, your role will change and responsibility increase as you progress through the years until, in year 5, you will be responsible for the management of the whole project. You will also be able to demonstrate your own engineering ability on complex individual projects, chosen to match your career aspirations or to demonstrate your adaptability. So, whatever your chosen discipline, you will work with a variety of specialists at various locations on a range of projects designed to re-inforce your knowledge and skills but also to take you out of your comfort zone. By working on applications from deep sea to deep space you will be able to use your expertise and knowledge and your ability to manage system-level design to evaluate a problem and formulate a solution.
