English Literature at the University of Hertfordshire is a vibrant subject area, with a dedicated, experienced group of staff. All our staff combine their teaching activities with internationally recognised research and writing. We offer a curriculum that familiarises students with significant authors, movements and periods from literary history, whilst also introducing them to more marginal writers, texts and genres. We provide our students with a firm grounding in the analytical skills and theoretical concepts needed to enrich their understanding of literary texts. Students rate the teaching they receive very highly. In the National Student Survey 2014, 95% of students agreed that staff explained things clearly, 98% found the staff enthusiastic about their subject, and 93% found the course intellectually stimulating. Our unique Humanities Programme at the University of Hertfordshire enables you to study a combination of major and minor subjects to create a really bespoke degree that suits both your strengths and interests. It’s up to you whether you continue with your unique combination from your second year of study or simply specialise in perhaps just one or two subject areas.
