Where language comes from and how people use it is one of the big debates of our time. This subject looks at how the English language works, how we use it to communicate, how we acquire it in the first place, and how it varies according to social factors. The modules make extensive use of web based resources such as interactive exercises. Our Religious Studies pathway combines insights from Philosophy, Media Cultures and other disciplines in order to help you gain a deeper understanding of how religion is central to many social, political and ethical issues. We’ll introduce you to various theories of religion; the ideas, beliefs and practices of some of the major world religions - such as Judaism, Christianity, Islam and Buddhism; and how religion impacts - and is impacted by - some important contemporary controversies. Our unique Humanities Programme at the University of Hertfordshire enables you to study a combination of major and minor subjects to create a really bespoke degree that suits both your strengths and interests. It’s up to you whether you continue with your unique combination from your second year of study or simply specialise in perhaps just one or two subject areas.
