Primary Education

How children are taught in their early and primary years can have a lasting impact on their entire education. This programme will give you the knowledge and skills to engage and inspire young learners. Following an Ofsted inspection in 2016, our primary provision was rated ‘outstanding’. The report described the quality of training as providing an excellent balance between professional studies, developing individual subject knowledge and practical experiences. You will receive teacher training through on-the-job placements and sessions at the university with our expert tutors. You will spend eight weeks each year observing and working alongside experienced teachers in a school, with increasing responsibility. In Year 2, you can undertake a two-week enrichment placement in an alternative setting, such as a special school or museum. In Year 3, you can develop a personal interest or area of expertise. By the time you achieve Qualified Teacher Status at the end of Year 3, you will have the confidence and skills to begin a rewarding career as a primary teacher.
