Agricultural Science (Animal Science)

This programme will give an understanding of: opportunities and challenges facing animal health and welfare globally, and how to assess and manage them; relationships between health, welfare and management; economics of animal health and welfare; animal production systems in terms of efficiency and wider sustainability; key system components in animal production systems including genetics, reproduction, nutrition, management and environment; land-based and aquatic livestock systems; the potential for technology to alter the capacity of animal production systems to adjust to future scenarios; impact of climate change and resources constraints on future livestock production; epidemiology and control of diseases of national and international importance; processing, quality and safety of livestock products; global trends in livestock product consumption and production; regulations and trade in animal products amongst many others.Year 1 Introductory Topics in Agricultural and Food Economics; Science for Agri-Food Systems: Cells to Organisms; Science for Agri-Food Systems: Interactions within Systems; Professional Skills for Global Agri-Food Scientists 1.
