Creative and Professional Writing

Embarking on a creative writing degree means entering a world in which the power of words and the potential of your imagination combine to create something wonderful. Writing is everywhere– in books, on screens, and in the theatre. The internet has also changed the way we receive writing and increased the scope for writers and their work. The Creative and Professional Writing course at UEL recognizes these opportunities and will support you as you develop as a writer. Our course supports students in the development of their writing in a preferred form or genre. It also invites you to challenge conventional ways of looking at writing, and encourages you to explore multimedia approaches to writing. The course stresses the importance of experimenting with poetry, prose, drama and different media to allow new forms and new representations of contemporary culture to emerge. In addition, exposure to various types of writing across a wide range of disciplines prepares students for employment in a variety of professional writing environments. Studying the Creative Writing degree at UEL means getting support, inspiration and feedback at all levels of your writing practice, whether you are a young writer just setting out on your literary journey, someone looking for a career change, or a mature student hoping to realise your dream of being an author.
