Philosophy, Politics and Economics

The BA Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) at UEA will give you the chance to pursue a spectrum of interests within a single degree programme. With teaching from the School of Politics, Philosophy, Language and Communication Studies, you will learn to analyse a given economic, political or social problem using not only economic tools and concepts, but also those from political science and philosophy, applying this multifaceted approach in order to create new insights. You will learn about the core areas of economics, as well as studying philosophical topics such as scepticism, freedom and morality, and exploring social and political values such as equality and solidarity. **Course Structure** Benefiting from the collaborative nature of this degree, you’ll take a compulsory core of modules, and then have the freedom to direct your own learning across the two disciplines with a choice of complementary modules. **Year 1** In the first year you will study introductory compulsory modules in economics, politics and philosophy: Introductory Macroeconomics, Introductory Microeconomics, Philosophical Problems, and Social and Political Theory. You will also have the opportunity to select optional modules in philosophy and politics. **Year 2** During your second year you’ll continue to develop your understanding of macro and microeconomics through the modules ‘Intermediate Macroeconomics’ and ‘Intermediate Microeconomics’. Alongside this you’ll choose optional modules in philosophy and politics – shaping your own path and developing your interdisciplinary understanding. **Year 3** You’ll continue your interdisciplinary studies in the final year, taking modules from across the Schools to ensure you have a deep understanding of all three disciplines. You will also have the option to take a dissertation during your final year. **Disclaimer** Course details are subject to change.
