Magazine Journalism

Aspiring magazine journalists can take many career directions – from lifestyle titles to business journals, print to digital publications. This course helps you break into a highly competitive but thoroughly rewarding profession. **Why choose this course?** BA (Hons) Magazine Journalism teaches you how to research and produce engaging magazine content across multiple platforms. You can even specialise in covering a subject you feel passionate about. Travel, food, motoring, music: there are magazines to suit all interests. **Is this course for you?** Whether you’re keen to write for a major publisher or develop publications for big-name brands, this degree is a great starting point. It’s not just about print journalism: with new technologies revolutionising the industry, you’ll reach your audience via social media, mobile platforms, video and audio too. **How you will learn** You’ll gather information, conduct interviews and write wide-ranging articles and features. Where possible, you’ll work with professional magazines and see your work published. We also help you become adept with latest technology in our newsroom, Mac and video editing suites, and radio and TV studios. **Opportunities and experiences** You can undertake work experience with a media or brand organisation; contribute to the University’s own news outlets; visit professional media companies; and hear from experienced journalists through our guest lecture programme. **Careers and employability** Our graduates secure jobs not only in magazines, newspapers and broadcasting, but also with online businesses and social media agencies. While many take up traditional journalist roles, others find careers in PR, marketing, advertising and corporate communications.
